Hi.

Welcome to Our Vinland! I like to share stories of our travels, our homestead and our lives, thanks for stopping by!

A New Home

A New Home

August! I mean really, August! Goodness, I started writing this post back in July and now we are already a week into August. Dear summer, please don’t move to fast, I would like to savor your warmth and sunshine!

So much excitement has filled our lives these days.

We spent the first part of July with my family, exploring the black hills of South Dakota. We stayed in a beautiful modern log cabin that was nestled right up to a stream. We would leave the screen doors open and enjoy the quite hours of dusk in the hot tub while listening to the stream. The stars out there, beautiful, bright and numerous!  We hiked through the mountains, spied on mountain goats and caught glimpses of wild buffalo.

The Black Hills are wild and mountainous, with shear rock faces jutting up from a forest of pines and aspen. We swam in a lake that was around 6,000ft in elevation, it was cold, colder than the ocean. What a dream that week was, filled with adventure and family!

We said goodbye at the end of July to our first home together. The place we came home to after our honeymoon, the place were we dreamed of what our lives might hold, the place were Anna was conceived and where she spent her first year. It was our home, that little apartment on a busy street in downtown Beverly.

Special thanks to Mark Spooner for coming over to take these photos of our first home!

But with sad endings come new and exciting beginnings.

We bought on a cute little run down farmhouse on an acre in Essex. We still can’t believe we found it, it sort of fell into our laps. We looked for a year and thought we would never find what we want and could afford, then right when we had given up, little house popped up and we didn’t hesitate.

We have lived here a week and we are full of thankfulness. Already this house has hosted a workday, two birthdays and a housewarming. This house is very quickly turning into a home.
